JEE Main is the first phase of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) entrance exam. The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts the JEE Main examination four times a year. The exam serves as the preliminary examination for JEE-Advanced.

JEE Main exam is conducted every year in February, March, April and May sessions. Aspirants can appear in one or all sessions as per their choice.

What is JEE Main?

Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main is a national-level engineering entrance exam for admission to various undergraduate programs in engineering, architecture and planning. The exam is an online computer-based test conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). Until 2018, the examination was an offline pen-paper-based test conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education(CBSE).

After successfully attending the JEE Main exam and securing a score, a student can apply for admission to B.Tech, B.Arch, and B.Planning courses in reputed institutes like the National Institutes of Technology (NIT) and Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIT), etc.

JEE Main: Eligibility Criteria

Students who have completed their Class 12th or equivalent or are appearing candidates with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as mandatory subjects are eligible to apply for JEE Main. General/ OBC candidates require a minimum of 75% marks in Class 12th, and SC/ST candidates require a minimum of 65% marks in Class 12th or equivalent to be eligible for admissions in NITs and IIITs. 

JEE Main: Exam Pattern

JEE Main is conducted by NTA through an online computer-based test. The syllabus of the JEE Main exam is based on the Class 11th and Class 12th Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics according to NCERT / CBSE Syllabus. Class 11th chapters carry a weightage of 40%, and Class 12th chapters carry a weightage of 60% in the exam.

Latest Update of JEE Main 2024: 

JEE Main 2024 will be conducted twice, in the month of January and April. The tentative schedule for the first session of the exam is the last week of January 2024.

  • JEE Mains 2024 Hall ticket release on – January 21, 2024
  • JEE Mains 2024 Exam date – 23rd to 30th January 2024

  • JEE Mains 2024 Closing Date of the Application – February 10, 2024,

JEE Main 2024: Exam syllabus

The syllabus of JEE Main 2024 is based on the Class 11 and Class 12 Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry as per the NCERT curriculum. Students can download the JEE Main 2024 syllabus from the NTA official website at jeemain.nta.nic.in when available.

  • The first step for the JEE Main exam is to create a proper study plan. Focus on all of the subjects, topics you need to cover, and the date by which you plan to finish each one.
