The CBSE will not award any overall division or distinction to students in class 10 and 12 board exams.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will not award any division or distinction to students who appeared in class 10 and 12 board exams. The CBSE examination controller, Sanyam Bhardwaj, stated in an official press release that “No overall division/distinction/aggregate will be awarded” to students in the class 10 and 12 board examinations. CBSE also stated the board will not calculate, inform, or declare the percentage of marks.
The announcement came after several questions about the criteria for calculating the percentage of the students in the board’s examination. Before this announcement, the board was previously informed that the board exam for classes 10 and 12 will be conducted on February 15.
The official announcement stated, “No overall division/distinction/aggregate shall be awarded. Also, if a candidate has offered more than 5 subjects, the decision to determine the 5 subjects may be taken by the admitting institution or employer. Further, it is informed that the Board does not calculate/declare/inform the percentage of marks.”
The CBSE has also announced that if a student has been given more than five subjects, then the decision to choose the best five subjects will solely depend on the admitting institution.
The Board clarified in the press release that the Board will not calculate/inform/declare the percentage of marks and the admitting institution will do it if there is any requirment for higher education or employment.
In the last year, CBSE announced that it would not issue any merit list of students of class 10 and class 12 board examination. The decision to not publish any merit list was taken to avoid any unhealthy competition between students.
